ICAC January Meeting

The Interfaith Council of Alameda County (ICAC) will hold its first meeting of 2025 on Thursday, January 9, at the Port of Oakland, located at 530 Water Street. Hosted by the President of the Port of Oakland, the meeting will run from 1:00 to 2:30 PM and will focus on pressing community issues, including environmental justice, housing solutions, and crime and safety.

State, county, and city officials have been invited to join ICAC board members and the community to explore effective strategies for addressing these interconnected challenges across Alameda County, including ICAC’s Safe Car Park program expansion and efforts to convert trailers into shelters for the unhoused.

All are welcome and encouraged to attend and contribute to this important discussion.

November Annual Meeting and Harvest Luncheon

Join us for our November Annual Meeting and Harvest Luncheon to celebrate our unity, give thanks, and engage in meaningful conversation with fellow community members. We’re especially grateful to the Pacifica Institute for sponsoring this year’s Harvest Luncheon.

This year’s program will feature the announcement of new ICAC board and advisory members and inspiring reflections from Bishop Gregory Payton of Greater Saint John Missionary Baptist Church, Servant BK Woodson, and others.

We look forward to an afternoon of enriching discussion, delicious food, and the spirit of harvest and thanks. All are welcome.

An Evening of Gospel Music With Lena Byrd Miles

This special evening will feature Billboard artist, Lena Byrd Miles, the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir, and Destined2Dance. Everyone who attends will be treated to an amazing evening of top-notch entertainment while also doing a lot of good for the community.  Attendance will help support the Interfaith Council of Alameda County in their charitable efforts in the community, especially their work to improve community health and safety and to feed and care for those in need of food and shelter.

Lena Byrd Miles, Stellar Award winner, Billboard #1 My Block Inc. artist, the darling of the Oakland Bay Area has been singing since the ripe ole age of 4. Coming from a musical family, she launched her singing career at her grandfather’s church where she faithfully lent her gift. More than an artist, Lena is a wife, daughter, sister, and friend with a unique ability to connect with people. Lena’s innate comedic prowess and infectious laugh draws you in, but her compassion for mankind will cause you to appreciate her heart.

Founded in 1986, the mission of the Oakland Interfaith Gospel Choir, Inc. is to inspire joy and unity among all people through Black gospel and spiritual music traditions. Born out of a gospel music workshop led by the exuberant Terrance Kelly at Living Jazz’s Jazz Camp West, it became an independent 501(c)3 nonprofit organization in 1991. OIGC currently weaves together more than 300 singers across multiple choirs from a wide range of faiths, races, and cultures whose performances of historic forms of African American music bring a message of inclusion and belonging to diverse audiences. The mission of OIGC is to inspire joy and unity among all people through Black gospel and spiritual music traditions.

Our proposal includes safe temporary park for homeless vehicles and small houses/containers on congregation parking lots; local congregation support for the second Oakland Navigation Center; warming centers and other ideas.

Attending with be Oakland City Administrator Sabrina Landreth, Landon Williams of the San Francisco Founda­tion and Alameda County Supervisors Nate Miley and Wilma Chan. Also attending will be Oakland City Councilmembers Re­becca Kaplan, Noel Gallo and Abel Guillén.

Please join the Interfaith Council of Alameda County (ICAC) on November 2 as it hosts a press rally event supporting the Alameda County A1 Affordable Housing bond and local housing measures in cities across Alameda County. Supervisor Wilma Chan will be helping to host a press release to promote awareness around these measures. The ICAC will be holding a press rally at the location of the Alameda County Board of Supervisors county office in Oakland to speak about the need to address the affordable housing crisis from a moral perspective. Event will start promptly at 10am on November. All who are a part of the ICAC, along with community members, and clergy are strongly encouraged to attend.

Come and join clergy, community leaders and local officials to celebrate the kick off of the Interfaith Council of Alameda County (ICAC) event. The ICAC represents a diverse coalition of faith communities seeking to promote mutual respect, understanding and engagement among the county's diverse faith traditions; mobilize people to serve their community; support religious freedoms; and promote interfaith organizations and activities. 
The purpose of this event is to bring clergy, community leaders and elected officials to the table to hear about the goals of the ICAC, the history of its formation, the vision it has to create stronger communities and how you can become involved. 
Dinner will be provided by the East Bay Community Foundation which is near street parking and BART. Space is limited. RSVP is required.
